Today, Genny Rowell, the 24 year old American language assistant, was at our school. She was born in New York State in the US. Now she lives in Nova Scotia (Canada) and studies the German culture there. Genny Rowell loves ice hockey and said that Germany’s victory over Canada at their ice hockey game at the Winter Olympics this year was a really big deal in Canada and that Canadian people were disappointed. She also talked about the love that Americans have for sports. A lot of Americans enjoy watching and playing baseball and basketball.

She also talked about the negative things in America like showing a lot of violence on TV and a lot of swearwords but being sensitive about nudity. The German society isn’t really sensitive about nudity but they don’t like violence and offensive language so they don’t swear a lot or fight brutally in movies or series. Genny prefers how the German society handles these topics because her opinion is that that’s a lot healthier this way than seeing people getting shot in films like in American movies.

When someone asked her about German food she answered that German food is unique and also that she eats a lot of Turkish food here. Genny is really sad about returning to Canada because there aren’t Turkish dinners like “Döner“ and she really likes Döners.

She also told us that Berlin is a “hip“ city and everytime she tells someone that she’s visiting Berlin people are impressed and say Berlin is really cool. Genny also loves Germany and said she would return anytime.
